Dr Susanne Schmidt-​Morsbach is a found­ing part­ner of the law firm Schirp Schmidt-​Morsbach. Her prac­tice fo­cuses on cap­ital in­vest­ment, cor­por­ate and in­solv­ency law. In ad­di­tion to her qual­i­fic­a­tion as a spe­cial­ist law­yer for bank­ing and cap­ital mar­ket law, Dr Schmidt-​Morsbach also holds the title of spe­cial­ist law­yer for com­mer­cial and cor­por­ate law. In re­cent years, she has been in­volved in the suc­cess­ful re­struc­tur­ing of many closed-​end funds, thereby avert­ing con­sid­er­able dam­age to in­vestors. She holds a num­ber of ad­vis­ory board po­s­i­tions and is an ex­per­i­enced lit­ig­ator. She has been elec­ted on nu­mer­ous oc­ca­sions as joint rep­res­ent­at­ive of bond­hold­ers. In 2015, Dr Schmidt-​Morsbach and her col­leagues foun­ded the VGVD Verb­and Ge­mein­samer Ver­treter Deutsch­land e.V., the As­so­ci­ation of Joint Rep­res­ent­at­ives in Ger­many, which she has chaired since its in­cep­tion. This first pro­fes­sional as­so­ci­ation of joint rep­res­ent­at­ives serves to rep­res­ent in­terests, provide fur­ther train­ing and en­sure qual­ity assurance.

Dr Schmidt-​Morsbach gained her first pro­fes­sional ex­per­i­ence as a man­age­ment con­sult­ant in a large Ger­man con­sult­ing firm. Be­fore be­ing ad­mit­ted to prac­tise as a lay­wer in 2000, she was a re­search as­sist­ant at the Chair of Com­mer­cial and Cor­por­ate Law and In­sur­ance Law at the Tech­nical Uni­ver­sity of Ber­lin while com­plet­ing her doctorate.

In ad­di­tion to law, Dr Schmidt-​Morsbach stud­ied eco­nom­ics at the Free Uni­ver­sity of Ber­lin and the Al­bert Lud­wig Uni­ver­sity in Freiburg, and French law at the Uni­versité Stend­hal in Gren­oble, where she gradu­ated with a Diplôme de Droit Français. She com­pleted her legal train­ing in Ber­lin and Lübeck at the tax of­fice and tax court, as well as at com­mer­cial law firms spe­cial­ising in man­age­ment consulting.

Dr Schmidt-​Morsbach has pub­lished nu­mer­ous art­icles in spe­cial­ist journ­als on in­sur­ance and cor­por­ate law, is co-​author of the ‘Ber­liner Kom­mentar zum Ver­sicher­ungs­ver­trag­s­recht’ (Ber­lin Com­ment­ary on In­sur­ance Con­tract Law) and reg­u­larly gives lec­tures on pro­spectus li­ab­il­ity, com­mer­cial and cor­por­ate law.
